July 2010
Busy, busy, busy…
A Handful of Pearls & Other Stories is officially released, both in print and as an e-book. It received two nice reviews from Booklist Online and Publishers Weekly (this one is no longer available for free, alas).
And the buzz is building for PASSION PLAY. Google Alerts brings me tantalizing newsbits—people adding the book to their wish-lists, people reading the many lovely ARCs my publicist mailed out, people telling other people what they thought of the book. lt's exhilarating, exciting, and a bit scary.
Luckily, I have FOX & PHOENIX and ALLEGIANCE to keep me occupied. I'm nearly done with revisions for FOX & PHOENIX. My editor tells me they have a cover artist lined up, and there's a release date of July 7, 2011. You can even pre-order the book on Amazon in England, France, Germany, and Canada. And the new opening for ALLEGIANCE is coming into focus…

*dives back into work*
June 2010
BEA was fabulous. I signed 120 ARCs of PASSION PLAY, got interviewed twice, and spent the rest of my time cruising the floors. An amazing, amazing show, full of books and energy and just absolute WOW. I hope I can get back next year.
In other news, I'm veering between publicity material for PASSION PLAY and revisions for FOX & PHOENIX. After that, I return to writing ALLEGIANCE.
May 2010
Eep! So busy I forgot to update my journal. In short, I have a busy schedule at BEA, including a signing session, an interview, and a possible second interview, not to mention hanging out with my editor. My collection, A Handful of Pearls & Other Stories, is coming out in June, and the first few reviews have already appeared. More to come in the next few months.
April 2010
Story revised and sold to Tor.com! Its title is "River of Souls," and it's scheduled to appear in a couple months, both online and an audio version.
In other news, I finished reviewing the galleys for PASSION PLAY, and I'm in contact with my publicist from Tor about BEA and other events. My life has turned into a series of deadlines, and I love it.
March 2010
I've been sick most of the past month. In spite of that, I managed to write a new story set in the Erythandran universe, and I'm halfway through reviewing the galley proofs for PASSION PLAY. Once those are done, I return to writing ALLEGIANCE.
February 2010
Oh my, what a busy month. First my editor suggested few more tweaks for Queen's Hunt. That book is now officially Delivered and Accepted. Next came the galleys for my collection, A Handful of Pearls & Other Stories. I had no sooner finished reviewing those when the copyedits for Passion Play arrived. Those went out the door in time for me to prepare for Boskone, where I participated in three panels and read excerpts from the collection. I didn't get as much writing done as I hoped, but I did find a new opening for the third book in my Tor trilogy.
In the extra special news department, I just learned I will be signing books at the Book Expo of America in May. More details as I get them.
News Flash! My agent just reported that Tor wants to publish both The Time Roads (my Éireann novel) and The Edge of the Empire (aka, my pirate novel). That loud noise you hear is me squeeing with joy.
January 2010
Last year was another good one. I had three goals: finish Queen's Hunt, make a dent in Allegiance, and write the fourth and final Éireann story. I accomplished the first two, the most important ones. Queen's Hunt went to my editor in July, and again in December after revisions. Shortly after that, I opened up a new file and started the first chapter of Allegiance.
It was a strange and wonderful moment. This is the book that ends a story I started twenty years ago. In between then and now have been false starts, long gaps when I did not write, and several major shifts in the characters and the plot. But this time, this book, will see a resolution. I only hope I can do it justice.
My third goal was a tentative one, and just as well. Though I did write detailed notes for it, the final Éireann story went to the backburner while I worked on my collection. The reprint stories all got a polish, and I wrote one new story that was both very difficult and very satisfying to create. The tentative publication date is April 2010, and it will include an introduction by James Patrick Kelly and artwork by Vincent Chong.
And did I mention I sold another novel? Fox and Phoenix, my YA fantasy, sold to Sharyn November at Viking. It's tentatively scheduled to appear Summer 2011. *insert happy writer dance*
Now for the new year... I have several goals attached to real contracts. There are copyedits and page proofs for Passion Play, revisions and copyedits for Fox and Phoenix, and delivery of Allegiance. It's also possible there might be one more round of revisions for Queen's Hunt. Lots of work, but lots of fun work.
And for my reward, my first book, Passion Play, comes out in October.
